My local Starbucks is closed today for sensitivity training. I need something to do as an alternative to going there for a coffee this afternoon....
In the interest of equality, whatever I do must cost less than $6, and must not take longer than 15 minutes. I am willing to accept getting a poor relative value for my $6, in addition to the long term health effects of excessive sugar consumption, and whatever insensitivity the employees need to be trained to avoid. It must also be an acceptable excuse for leaving the office, in the manner that “I’m going to Starbucks to get a coffee” is.
Any ideas?

If you were around here I’d say walk half a block to a different coffee shop.

McCafe your day!
I’m drinking a $2 medium iced coffee from McD’s right now. Very good for the cost.

Ended up going to a local place instead. I managed to come in a buck under budget, get an extra pump of syrup, and exchange multiple disparaging remarks with the barista regarding our respective ethnic backgrounds and lifestyles.
I contributed zero productivity to work in the process.
Success!

For me there is the coffee shop/bakery down in the lobby, the other one across the street, the drive through a block over, a hotel coffee shop a block the other way, etc. I have to pass a bunch to get to the Starbucks that’s 5 blocks away, which I have been known to do on slow days or days that I’m not particularly interested in being productive.

Screw Starbucks. Maylou’s is better. Dunkin works in a pinch too.

Free: call Starbucks and order a black coffee, then say “You’re not going to call the cops, are you?”

Disclosure: Source is from Boston, so bigly biased against Starbucks and for Dunkin Donuts.

My office has a fancy/crappy touchscreen coffee machine that dispenses mediocre coffee that’s less mediocre than the mediocre coffee I’ve had at other jobs. We also have a free soda fountain that has unsweetened iced tea and Coke Zero. Which is to say that I basically never buy a drink. I try not to drink the Coke Zero in excess. But it’s hard, because it’s free, and it’s there.

Even though they’re closed, we can still use the bathroom, right? Did they leave a key under the mat or is there a concierge on duty?
I’m gonna call the ACLU to make sure they’re on top of this.

Maybe go to another coffee shop that doesn’t hire so many racist employees that they have to close down for several hours in order to teach them all how to better hide their racism?
